January 1, 2011- First Camp-Out of the Year!

The year 2011 started off with one of our favorite outdoor Roi-Namur adventures. We took advantage of three day weekend by going camping. It’s been a while since any of us have even been to Roi, much less camping.  We were a bit worried about the potential for rain, but except for one downpour in the middle of the night and a few scattered light showers during the day, it ended up being a perfect night to be out in the elements. The rain even kept the rats away. This is the first campout in a long time that I don’t remember waking up to any scuffling noises outside the tent or eating dinner while chasing the rats away from the picnic table.  Seriously, the rats here are pretty bold! The wind was gusting a bit, which made it cooler than normal and kept most of the usual flies away, but my boyfriend did have to build a wind shield to ensure the campfire would even light for our smores. Once again, the windshield worked just as it should, and everything turned out perfectly. It is the best night’s sleep I’ve had camping in a very, long time, and all three boys slept well too. That in itself makes it a success! It looks like 2011 is going to be a good year.
