August 12: Writing Prompt #224-Lifeline

You’re on a long flight, and a palm reader sitting next to you insists she reads your palm. You hesitate, but agree. What does she tell you?

I vaguely remember a friend reading my palm in the past. I was told I would have a long life because my “lifeline” in the middle of my palm went all the way across.  She told me some other things, but nothing else stuck with me except that part. This is probably because my back door neighbor  and childhood friend had a scar down the middle of her chest which she called her “lifeline.”  She had a heart problem and had received open heart surgery as a baby. She had regular checks with her heart doctor every year and appeared perfectly healthy to all until her heart just stopped at 20 years old.  That was all her heart had in it…20 years.  We never know how long we will have in this life, so it’s best to make the most of it.  I don’t take much stock in palm readers, tarot cards, crystals, etc…but I think it’s fun to hear what they have to say because we all wish we could KNOW more about our futures and prepare ourselves for it. I just know that in the end, life is too short, goes by too quickly, and is always full of new challenges and surprises.  We can attempt to predict it at each and every stage and never get it exactly right, and that’s okay.  All we can do is live life to the fullest and don’t take a single moment for granted.
