December 14: Writing Prompt #348-Festivus for the Rest of Us

So, I really don’t like the idea of having a “You Day.” It’s very uncomfortable and embarrassing for me, so instead, I would have a “The Power of Community” Day instead. This day would celebrate all of us as a collective and what we can do together.  What day would it be, well, I think that would change based on when I felt the community or universe had come together particularly well.  When we met a challenge head on, for example, or supporting another family or country in need, well, it would be time for a community celebration.
Special events that would take place would be team building fun such as tug-of-war, egg tosses, the human knot, relay races, and more.  Food served would be a little bit of everything from the various cultures around the world who were part of the community effort we are celebrating at that particular moment. Decorations, again, that would be specific to the event of that moment. For example, if we as a universe, helped China out of a bind, then we might go with a “China Town” theme and decorate like it was Chinese New Year.

I think it’s so important to celebrate teamwork and the collective effort.  I think some of the most historic and inspiring moments of history have evolved out of groups of persons coming together for a cause, not just singular efforts.  One person may have a radical and awesome idea, but it usually takes the help of others to bring it to fruition.  None of us is an island unto ourselves-we need each other to succeed.
