Write down the first sight, sound, smell,
and sensation you experienced on waking up today. Pick the one you’re most drawn
to and write. (For a bigger challenge, pick the one you’re least drawn to.)
Being the
weekend, I woke up more than once (LOVE being able to sleep in on Saturdays and
Sundays!!), but I have to say that the sight I am most drawn to write about is
the one when I woke up at first light and saw my husband and my dog were
snuggled up together fast asleep. Gunner had his head laid back across my
husband’s chest, and my husband had his arm around and across Gunner’s chest
and shoulders. It was very sweet, and of
course, reveals how very spoiled our dog has become. We try to get him to sleep
at the foot of our bed, but somehow he always moves up to the head of the bed
with us and stretches all the way to the foot because he is so long.
I was
telling my husband about it later in the morning, and I asked him if he
remembered putting his arm around him like that, and he said no, but he did
remember waking up that way (when Gunner moved his head and started pushing him
off the bed in order to get in the position he wanted to be in, which happens
quite frequently, interrupting our precious sleep), and he also knew somehow
that they were both sleeping pretty hard at that moment. Even though adopting a dog has been lots of
hard work and actually interrupts our sleep regularly, I can’t imagine our life
without him now. It’s only been 7 months
since we brought him home, but he brings us joy every day and enriches our
lives in ways I never knew I was missing out on until now.
