March 13: Writing Prompt #72-Silver Screen

Take a quote from your favorite movie — there’s the title of your post. Now, write!

Ohhhhh, Stuff Crust
“I will stuff you ALL in the crust!” (Despicable Me)
Another thing I love about my husband is his quick wit and way of playing with words.  The title quote spoken by Gru to his kids and the minions is something just like my sweetheart would say.  He can make a joke out of almost anything and bring a sly grin or loud cackle out of me so fast.  Most of my favorite movies are kids’ movies, and the fact that my husband (having no children of his own and taking on mine by choice) discovered kids’ movies with us and learned to enjoy them just as much as we do says a ton about him.
For the 3 years my children didn’t live with me, I took them on many a weekend trip to the island of Roi-Namur, which is where my husband lived before we were married.  He would plan, set up, and execute the most wonderful family friendly adventures….these are truly some of my most treasured memories with my children and with my husband.  Who does that? He was always thinking of us and what we would like to do, eat, etc…and he was a big contributor to making the little bit of time I had with my boys back then top quality.
We spent plenty of holidays there including the night before Easter morning camping in tents at his beach shack (where rats chewed through our tents to get to the chocolate the Easter Bunny had delivered (whoops! Mommy was still learning about camping…and obviously the Easter Bunny didn’t know much either) and egg hunting on the beach in between all the coconut palms and scagliola plants.  Christmas was fun too…again with another rat pack adventure…chewing through my suitcase and a stocking while goodies from Santa awaited pick up at the storage facility by the airport. Grrrr….I love these holidays because they were full of adventure; they were unique. I hope my children remember them as fondly as I do.
Now, birthdays were the best!! My husband made a real treasure map with aging, browned torn edges, a wax seal, and an “X marks the spot.” For this, we had to use our newly discovered GPS skills (we had recently started Geocaching) and a rented golf cart to take us around the island to find each present and eventually the hidden treasure, which was in the real WWI hospital bunker long covered over by creeping jungle vines.
I also have pictures (actual ones as well as memories in my mind) of regular weekends spent practicing our jumping pictures into the most wide open ocean from the pontoon boat, making Kung Fu Panda rice krispie treats, playing basketball, digging holes to China in the sand, going to the outdoor movie theater and eating tons of popcorn, grilling out at the beach shack, walking the shores for treasures, and taking our “Sunday Drives” with the golf cart to go feed the chickens on the other end of the island.

Makes me sad to think that these days and times are long gone as my boys are getting older and spending more and more time with their friends and less and less time with mom and dad, but we’ll always have these memories and our movie nights, remembering the fun and laughter together whenever we hear, “I will stuff you ALL in the crust!”
