March 7: Writing Prompt #66-Seven Days

You wake up tomorrow morning to find all your plans have been cancelled for the next seven days and $10,000 on your dresser. Tell us about your week.
Well, because I am now 40 years old, and I feel pretty lucky to have experienced a lot of the world already, there’s a few things I would do with some extra time and money:
The MONEY: (Now, as I wouldn’t want to be disturbed by outsiders during my 7 days off work, I would use the money to buy and set up the following home work to be done in the weeks following my 7 days off.
1. Hire someone to clean my house from top to bottom.
2. Purchase those little things for the house that we dream about but don’t buy because of the money, such as a new front door with a glass window, frosted glass blocks for the bathroom window, new kitchen backsplash/countertops, stain for our deck and paint for the inside of the house (and again, hire somebody to come take care of the chores of staining the deck, painting within the house, and putting in new kitchen counters).
3. Have a landscaper help us with our sloped yard to make it more user-friendly, putting in flagstone steps, a little grass, etc…
The TIME: During 7 glorious days off, I would, instead of taking a trip somewhere, stay home to rejuvenate, relax, and look inward. Here’s how I would do it.
1. Sleep until my body woke up, then read and drink coffee, do some yoga and take the dog for a nice hike or walk out in a beautiful, natural spot.
2. Write to and call all those friends and family whom I neglect during my usual busy, over-scheduled days.
3. Organize things around the house that have been piling up and put finishing touches on everything that’s been only partially taken care of since moving in.
Any leftover money (like there would be any with this list-LOL) would be put in the kid’s college fund or our savings for future trips or unexpected bills.  Any leftover time, well, it would be spent with my family, enjoying their company without being so tired and feeling like there’s not enough time in the day. J

To me, putting money back into the house is an investment that will pay off for the future and spending time taking care of myself for a week is investing in me and my family to ensure I can keep going without breaking down or getting too overwhelmed with life and all its many responsibilities.  Plus, it would just be fun to not have any responsibilities for a week and extra money to take care of all the little things on your “future when we have some extra money list,” don’t you think?  What would you do in the same situation?
