You receive a call from an unexpected
person. Who is it, and what is the conversation about? Go!
My best
friend from elementary school, Aimee Britt.
I haven’t heard from her since both our sons were toddlers (over 10
years), and I have been worried about what has happened to her. I actually wrote her mom and asked how I
could get in touch with her again the year I got remarried, and I have tried to
look up information on her online, searching to find something that could bring
us back together again, but with zero success. It’s literally like she just
disappeared from the earth. I miss her…
It is not
like her to be out of touch for so long, and she’s one of those friends with
whom I could always go back to right where we left off when she did call or
send a Christmas card. So, when all of that stopped, I worried…I went ahead and
sent my usual holiday cards to her and her family, and they were sent back,
undeliverable. Now that I have moved
back to the states, she no longer has my contact information, so I would truly
be shocked if I ever received a call from her.
If I did, I
know exactly how the conversation would go. We would, once again, pick up right
where we left off, and we would catch up on each other’s lives in a matter of
minutes, and we’d make plans for when we could see each other again. I think about her more and more as the years
go on, and I hope that wherever she is and whatever is going on in her life,
she knows how much I still care and how much I have always treasured our
friendship, not matter the time or distance.
I truly, sincerely hope that I will be surprised by a call or note from
her someday. That would be a most
memorable day in my life, one I would NEVER forget, and you can rest assured,
I’d hang on tighter to her this time, so we’d never get out of touch
again.
P.S. TO
AIMEE-From our days hanging on in between floors in the elevator at your house,
sliding down the stairs on blankets with your brother, making “spy movies”
together with my dad’s video camera, and playing mermaids in your backyard
pool, you were my first BFF, and I love you! Thanks for being there for me when
my parents got divorced and for always making the effort to keep in touch, even
when you didn’t have a phone, e-mail, or social media. Your family was a second
family to me, and your home a second home. I was always treated with so much
love, respect, and support by you and yours, and I hope our story has not ended
yet. Sending up prayers that we’ll find each other someday soon, and we can
begin again…It’s been WAY too long!!
