April 9: Writing Prompt #99-Do-Over

Go back to a blog post you always thought could be better, or were unsatisfied with — now, fix it.
Okay, so for me, I’m never totally satisfied with what I have written. I could go back to EVERY single blog post, re-read it and find something to better about it.  Even with my children’s picture books, as simple as they are, they sat unpublished for years, and every so often, I would go back, re-read them, and edit them. It might just be one word added or subtracted or a minor change in the order of the words. Doesn’t matter, there’s always something. It’s like my husband with cooking. It’s very rare that he will love a new dish he makes for the first time. It’s trial and error until he gets it just to his liking as far as taste, texture, and presentation.  There’s always lots of constructive criticism and “culinary editing” involved along the way.

The thing is that this is a principle I TRY to apply to all of my life, whether it’s work, housecleaning, communicating with others, etc…I am always looking for the “edits.” How can I become better at each small thing I do because more times than not it’s those small things that make for big differences in our quality of life overall.  Self-reflection is so important in keeping us humble and providing us with wisdom for the days ahead.  So, for me, a “do-over” is not just a one-time thing. It’s a continuous process for all aspects of my life, not just my blog posts!
