April 24: Writing Prompt #114-Stranger

Have you ever had a random encounter or fleeting moment with a stranger that stuck with you?
One morning in Hawaii when I was about to get married at the ripe ole age of 22, my mom, our friend Marcos, and I went out to breakfast, just the three of us.  I no longer remember very many of the details (it was THAT fleeting and random of a moment), but I will relay what I remember and ask my mom and Marcos to fill in the rest of the details if they so desire and remember any more than me. J

As we were enjoying our breakfast, there was a man sitting across the way from our table. A conversation was started (about what, I don’t know…), and it ended without any significance, but afterwards, all three of us felt we had missed something….an opportunity.  At that moment, three very individual people of various ages and backgrounds felt that God had placed us there to tell the man about Him, and for whatever reason, we all hesitated to follow that instruction.   Of course, my beliefs would tell me that God knew we would choose not to share His story and His saving grace with that man, so what reason He had for convicting us about that encounter is a mystery to me.  Maybe it was just to ensure we never “reject” that pull on our hearts again…maybe it was to confirm with us what it sounds and feels like to be spoken to by God, but it is something I can say I’ll always regret. Who knows how much better this story would have turned out if we had just followed God’s prompting in this instance.
