June 10: Writing Prompt #161-Ripped into the Headline

Write about something that happened over the weekend as though it’s the top story on your local paper.
Why am I having such a hard time with these prompts lately?? How about I just write about my weekend without having to make it like the top story in my local paper? Sound good to you? Okay then.

This past weekend, we traveled to Oregon to visit family and celebrate our nephew’s and his best friend’s graduation from high school.  It was a outdoor event with hamburgers off the grill and an assortment of fruit and pasta salads with cupcakes and my mother in law’s strawberry delight dessert to top it all off.  The hosts were very creative and organized from the rows of photographs clothes pined on lines across the wall of the back porch right down to the pallet art on which a welcome sign and the schedule for the evening was posted.  After mingling and eating, there was a rousing game of horseshoes and a stroll down memory lane with a musical slide show full of precious photographs and treasured moments in the lives of our two graduating seniors/guests of honor.  The night ended with one of my favorite activities, a campfire in the back yard, and this time there was an added bonus of campfire popcorn! Delicious.   I enjoy every minute of time with this precious part of my family in Oregon. Very blessed to have such wonderful in-laws and extended family!!
