Are you good at what you do?
What would you like to be better at?
I am good at certain aspects of what I do. There’s always room for
improvement. I am fairly natural with
children. Most of them take to me quickly and easily. This makes me better at
my job because I am able to step into a classroom and help a teacher who is
having trouble with a student by sitting with them one on one and giving them
the attention they need, and I can usually do this without having to know them
closely before entering the room.
I have also been told that people feel comfortable sharing or “venting”
to me. I think building relationships
with those we work with is very important. I think of my co-workers as my “work
family,” so I spend time getting to know them and looking after them in
whatever ways I can as their supervisor or co-worker. That said, I could be better at separating
that personal connection from what needs to be done. Sometimes I get so wrapped
up in taking care of the person that I am easily “duped,” so to speak, into
allowing them to take advantage of the system or me and my kindness to
them. I am also not always as direct as
I could be, and I will tend to just take care of it myself (even if that means
more work and stress for me) than cause a “conflict,” however small, by telling
them what I need them to do from a “boss” perspective.
I sometimes do wonder, as many of us do, if I am in the ideal profession
for me, but the bottom line is that I do enjoy it (most of the time), and I am
still concerned enough about my performance to want to do better and to learn
from others. I figure as long as I am still growing and wanting to grow, then I
will get better and better at what I do and eventually, I may stop wondering
and starting knowing that this is the place God has me for now, and He is
working through though the good things that I can do for others in my workplace
and in my life!
